Truck Yard

The front of the Truck Yard in Dallas.

When I visit Dallas Texas one of my favorite places to grab a cold beer from is Truck Yard located in Lower Greenville. Take a trailer park, beer garden, food truck corral, and a live music venue smash them together with some authentic Texas flavor and you got the Truck Yard.

The best thing about this place is it feels like you’re hanging out at buddy’s house opposed to a lame ass cookie cutter sports bar. In the trailer park style beer garden they have lawn chairs, picnic tables, and truck beds for people to sit at while enjoying food from the rotating selection of local food trucks or a delicious cheese steak from Steak Me Home Tonight.

Trailer park visuals, amazing food, great beer selection, and overall relaxed vibes are why this has become one of my all time favorites. If you find yourself in Dallas and want to grab some brews, grub, and listen to live music definitely head to the Truck Yard.

Climb So iLL

Climber on the Elite Wall at Climb So iLL.

Something I’ve realized about being a designer is that I’m always noticing the attention to detail in the everyday world. While I was on a weekend get away in St. Louis last week I did some rock climbing at Climb So iLL. From the friendly employees at the pro-shop to the design of the Walltopia climbing walls the facility is being executed with details in mind.

The climbing gym is located in the historic district inside a beautiful old power plant building. Climb So iLL did an amazing job of retaining the industrial character of the building while making one of the most contemporary and aesthetically pleasing climbing gyms in the country.

Underneath all the photogenic visuals is a world class climbing gym. The 55ft. rope wall, bouldering eye wall, and training area are prefect for people at all skill levels to focus on having fun and becoming strong climbers. So if you’re ever in St. Louis I highly suggest stopping by Climb So iLL to experience this world class visual packed gym first hand.
